Zalando, the biggest online shop of its kind offering shoes, fashion and accessories across Europe, has announced the start of a trainee program as of August 2012. In Germany, the company will offer apprenticeship positions following the country's vocational education system that combines scholastic and company training. Zalando trainees will recieve qualifications in the following professions: Digital Media Designer, Management Assistant in Wholesale & Export, Dialogue Marketing and Warehouse Operator.

"Zalando’s significant growth and subsequent size and stability are the main elements needed in order to offer quality job training. That is why the creation of apprenticeship positions is a logical step for us for sustainable HR development,“ said Frauke von Polier, Head of Human Resources at Zalando. "The apprenticing departments, such as marketing and graphics, are Zalando's core areas in which we have a strong demand for qualified professionals who will come to know and shape the heart and DNA of the company.“

The apprenticeship program will allow trainees to gain insights into a modern e-commerce company and to contribute to its success. Knowledge previously gained at vocational school will be applied hands-on, as participants will be incorporated into the business routine right from the start. In addition, Zalando offers corporate seminars, project work and a versatile apprentice network for social activities and events.

The company announced in addition that it will open its first stationary shop, after running several pop-up store projects. At the three-stroried outlet in Berlin, Köpenicker Strasse 20, Zalando will sell more than 10,000 remainders on an 1,000 sqm space with a discount of 30-70%. Access is only provided for selected holders of an outlet card.
