British designer Vivienne Westwood has become involved with The Woolmark Company as an ambassador for the prestigious brand name and natural raw material. Not only did the designer present a series of items made with pure Merino wool at her fall/winter 2012/2013 Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection at Paris Fashion Week last month, but she will also appear as a testimonial of the The Woolmark Company ad campaign for spring/summer 2012.

The latest Vivienne Westwood Gold Label collection was the starting point of the partnership between The Woolmark Company and the British designer. Her newest collection celebrates the finest Australian Merino wool featured in knitted and woven garments; highlights include 100% Merino wool jersey "underwear" and pleated fine knit skirts in autumnal shades.

Vivienne Westwood is renowned for using different forms of wool and noble fibers in her collections and has always been an avid supporter for the use of wool in fashion. “Wool is one of the world’s great natural fibers, famous for its versatility and comfort - warm in winter, cool in summer. It is incredibly versatile," explained Westwood. “When I began as a fashion designer, well over thirty years ago, I succeeded in re-introducing into fashion the idea of fine knitwear, the English twinset. Everybody loves this fine knitwear. It’s so light, so comfortable. You can add more than one layer and it looks great."

Stuart McCullough, CEO of Australian Wool Innovation and owner of The Woolmark Company, said, “We are very pleased to have one of the world’s most influential and important designers of our time, Vivienne Westwood, showcasing Merino wool at its finest. Merino wool is a beautiful natural fiber and Vivienne Westwood highlights its modernity and relevance in high-end fashion.”
