Coinciding with the celebration of the London Menswear SS 2015 fashion shows, the British Fashion Council (BFC) has released a list of facts and figures about the growth of UK’s men fashion business. According to figures from Mintel (2014), between 2008 and 2013 the UK menswear market grew by 18%, reaching £12.9 billion in 2013. Sales have increased almost 5% in the last year, as retailers have increasingly paid more attention to menswear, states the document. In the future, the UK men’s fashion market will grow by 27% between 2013 and 2018, reaching £16.4 billion.

The UK fashion industry is estimated to support 797,000 jobs (Oxford Economic 2014) and it’s a sector providing more opportunities to minority groups than other creative industries, according to the BFC Value of Fashion Report 2010. Moreover, the value of this industry for the UK economy has increased from £21 billion in 2009 to currently £26 billion.

At the current edition of London Collections: Men (June 15-17), 68 designers participated in shows and presentations while the Designer Showrooms hosted collections by 71 designers. New additions to the LC: M schedule included DKNY, Moschino, Joseph, Maharishi and Nicholas Kirkwood.
