Corona hits the Berlin trade show scene: Panorama Berlin just announced that the summer edition cannot take place.
"The current development unfortunately leaves us no choice. We therefore had to make the decision today to cancel the Panorama Berlin event at Tempelhof Airport from 30 June to 2 July 2020," says Jörg Wichmann, managing director, Panorama Berlin, in an open letter that has just been sent to the industry, retailers and media. Instead of a physical show a digital product is in the making, he announces.

Here, you can read the full statement:
"Dear partners of Panorama Berlin, dear retailers,
Moving times - pause - network - look ahead!
With the Corona Pandemic we find ourselves in an unprecedented situation that affects each and every one of us and shows a comparable, tragic dynamic across all borders. Following the decision of the Federal Government to initiate a lockdown, we have reached a new dimension. Our thoughts are now with all those who are particularly affected, in terms of health, private and economic life.
In recent weeks, we have received many positive commitments and strong support from industry and retailers throughout Europe to host Panorama Berlin again this summer. The desire for a newly oriented industry event is there.
We are very grateful for the direct exchange and constructive discussions with our exhibitors. However, as the current situation concerning the corona virus continues to worsen, we also have to recognise that there will be no planning security in the next eight to ten weeks, which we, and also our partners, need in order to organise a convincing event this summer. The current development unfortunately leaves us no choice. We therefore had to make the decision today to cancel the Panorama Berlin event at Tempelhof Airport from 30 June to 2 July 2020.
At the same time, we see this new situation as an opportunity to think about constructive possibilities of networking at a time when we cannot physically meet each other. We have already set up a task force to deal with a modern, digital product, which we are thinking about from our trade fair function. In mid-April we would like to present the first features and solutions. Industry and trade need an exchange. We want to provide the platform and the overview of the market for this. This product will be set up in a cost-effective and solution-oriented way. We invite the industry to help shape it together.
Dealing with challenges in an agile way. Finding innovative solutions. Act quickly, help quickly, more than ever!
Your Jörg Wichmann & Team
Stay healthy!"

Just recently Panorama Berlin made headlines when its mother company Panorama Fashion Fair Berlin GmbH applied to open insolvency proceedings on its own assets at the Berlin district court of Charlottenburg 28 February. Still, back then Wichmann was optimistic to organize an event at Tempelhof airport in summer as he had stated in an interview with SPORTSWEAR INTERNATIONAL.
