At the beginning of the week, representatives of the Texpertise Network of Messe Frankfurt, the UN Conscious Fashion Campaign and the United Nations Office for Partnerships (UNOP) met at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York to give insights into their future work to further implement the Sustainable Development Goals in the textile sector.
Robert Skinner, director of UNOP, opened the event, and emphasized how important it is for the economy and other stakeholders to implement sustainable development goals worldwide. Skinner said the international fashion and textile industry has the potential to push ahead with Agenda 2030 for sustainable development. The UNOP welcomes the opportunity to work together with Messe Frankfurt and Conscious Fashion Campaign to reach a wide professional audience, raise awareness of the goals and gain further support.
"In addition to the digitization, the topic of sustainability is shaping the worldwide textile industry currently decisive. With its worldwide textile events under the umbrella of the Texpertise Network, Messe Frankfurt is the global market leader and accompanies this development for over ten years. It is therefore only logical to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals into our worldwide activities to raise awareness for more sustainability in the textile industry”, said Detlef Braun, member of the board of management of Messe Frankfurt.
Kerry Bannigan, initiator of the Conscious Fashion Campaign, said that more players like Messe Frankfurt, who are actively committed to change, are needed so that the coming ten years can be the most effective years. With its worldwide event partners, the Conscious Fashion Campaign is committed to information, advocacy and commitment, always with a view to a sustainable and circuit-oriented event organization and logistics.
