Interstoff Asia Essential, that closed its September, 27 after three days, featured 174 exhibitors from China, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea and Taiwan and attracted 6,788 visitors from 42 countries. Compared to 2012 this means a 4% increase on last year’s figure.

“Many exhibitors recorded an increase in the number of buyers they had at their booths, especially those with functional and eco products,” commented Wendy Wen, Senior General Manager of fair organizer Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. “Being in Hong Kong, the fair attracts many buyers from Mainland China, as well as locally based companies doing business there. In addition, many international brands have purchasing offices here, so exhibitors also have access to many overseas buyers. What’s more, these buyers know this is a niche fair where they can find the latest high-end fabrics.”

The Chinese company Shaoxing Huaxue Textile, suppliers of eco-friendly Tencel for the mid-range and high-end markets, noticed also an increase in buyers at the fair. “We met 106 new clients during the three days, much more than last year. This included big brands like DKNY and Calvin Klein, so the fair has exceeded my expectations,” said Winnie Wang.

This year’s fringe program was well received by visitors to the fair, and included the autumn / winter 2014-15 Trend Forum, four fashion shows, a Designer’s Studio, Research & Education Zone, and a range of seminars with topics including design and trends, certification and sustainability, and market information. In addition, the Innovation and Technology Symposium 2013, organized by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), was held concurrently with the fair on 26 September.

The next edition of Interstoff Asia Essential will be held from 19 – 21 March, 2014. The autumn edition will also run from 25 – 27 September 2014.
