Upmarket sportswear brand Stone Island will launch its first collection of sunglasses at MIDO, the Italian eyewear trade show taking place in Milan between March 11-13. The new project was born from a collaboration between Carlo Rivetti, Creative Director and President of the brand, and EG Brands. EG Brands is a newly founded company, the management of which has many years of experience in the world of eyewear and is backed by EG Finance, a holding company owned by Andrea Lombardini and Sergio Maiorana.
The key styles of the collection include sunglasses created with rims made from 100% carbon fiber with a thickness of 3mm, created in a mould; their design draws special attention to the geometric three-dimensional appearance of the material even in what are known as the “areas of shadow”. The technology adopted and resistance tests employed are the same as those used for race cars. The glasses are available in four different colors - black, green, blue and red – which were created by using colored pigments suspended in transparent resin, leaving the texture of the carbon fiber visible. They come in a limited edition of just 400 pieces with optional matte and anti-scratch treatments.
All of the sunglasses are made in Italy and are mounted with sun lenses by Carl Zeiss Vision, a global leader in the sector. The collection will be available to the public starting in April 2012 and will be on sale at premium opticians, Stone Island stores and in selected multi-brand clothing stores. "I am well aware of the vast range of brands in the world of eyewear, but I am confident that, just like in the world of clothing, there is always room for new concepts with strong identity and content," commented Carlo Rivetti.
