People in New York are talking about Operations, the workwear-inspired contemporary American brand, once again, not just because a second store will open in the Meatpacking district this September, but also because of a clandestine collaboration with Levi’s. Operations for Levi’s Strauss & Co., a capsule collection of six men’s styles and eight women’s styles, debuts on Aug. 21 at Levi’s stores across the US and Operation stores in Manhattan, and features snappy pieces such as a blazer inspired by Oxford Uni profs with oversized front pockets to an Edwardian-inspired riding blazer for the girls. You could call them precious, but designers Matteo Gottardi, Michael Leen and Johannes Mahmood have given the pieces their own signature utilitarian stamp using fabrics such as Italian wool tweed, Japanese cotton moleskin and twill. Two styles for men and two for women will be exclusive to four NYC Levi Strauss stores.
