Safilo has recently announced the purchase of Polaroid Eyewear and, during the last edition of MIDO, confirmed that the acquisition will be perfected within the end of March.

Polaroid Eyewear was founded 75 years ago following the invention of Polaroid, the first polarizer by US Doctor Edwin Land who created it in 1929. This element was and still remains the basis of all polarized eyewear, photo lenses and screens today. The Polaroid Corporation was founded in 1937. Within this Mido edition, Polaroid presented a re-edition of its bestselling and most iconic glasses models such as the top-selling Seventy-five aviator model.

Italian eyewear specialist Safilo produces glasses under a licensing agreement a wide selection of brands including Gucci, Dior, Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, A/X Armani Exchange, Hugo Boss brands, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Max Mara, J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez and Yves Saint Laurent.

In 2011, Safilo reached a €1.109 billion turnover with a +6% increase.
