Los Angeles-based fashion designer and couturier Richard Tyler is turning the "friendly skies" into the "fashionable skies."

Delta Airlines announced on February 3 that the designer is set to create new uniforms for all of its public contact employees. According to a press release, the new uniforms, scheduled to debut in 2006, are all a part Delta’s long-term brand strategy and investment in distinguishing itself in the marketplace.

"Delta wants to provide all of our employees with a classic yet comfortable new look," says Sharon Wibben, Delta’s senior vice president of in-flight service.

Although it’s not clear what that new look will be, Tyler says that this opportunity gives him a chance to "bring back the timeless elegance and style that was very much alive during the classic age of travel and innovation."
