“We wanted to regenerate our brand presence in the US,” said Gaetano Sallorenzo, CEO of Replay, in town to reaffirm the company's North American plans during men's week and to co-host, along with Silvia and GianPaolo Buziol, daughter and son respectively of the late Claudio Buziol, one of the week’s most lavish parties at Cipriani Upstairs in SoHo. Dubbed a night of “Denim, Drinks and Midnight Pasta,” Monday's event feted Replay’s first line for S/S 2010 under the direction of Gigi Vezzola as well as the newest local brand ambassadors, ranging from Cipriani’s Ignazio Cipriani to wine mogul David Belardino, author Sandro Sechi and dj/artist Francesco Civetta. Despite a quieter men’s week atmosphere than in recent seasons, the mood was upbeat. “New York is the place to be,” insisted Silvia, while GianPaolo, just shy of entering college, said he was thrilled to be back in New York after more than a decade. Sallorenzo was equally optimistic, explaining that the company had beefed up its marketing and sales teams in the US and remains on track to open a unit in Miami. Internationally, he said, the company recently signed a JV with China and has plans to secure a foothold in Korea. It already has 10 locations in Russia. As Sallorenzo explained, “It’s moments like this, in tough moments, that you have to find opportunity.”
