In the heart of the Italian sector of this young, über-trendy neighborhood, surrounded by trendy bars and cafes, is a new address for the hipster’s black book: Redtoenails (RTN), at 622 Metropolitan Avenue. The boutique, which unofficially opened its doors on December 15 and which will hold its grand opening on January 19, aims to attract the fashion savvy with its cutting-edge apparel and become a nucleus for the young designer community.

The store’s owners, Farrah Zeigler and Dana Schulman, use the space as a studio to create their collection of the same name (, a quirky but extremely wearable women’s and men’s line that is also available at other stores throughout the US, including LA’s Fred Segal and NYC’s Eva.

At the somewhat more intimate environment of the new Brooklyn boutique, the RTN line sells alongside other young and innovative designers and brands such as Malicious Designs lingerie, MomiMomi tees, Thea Grant jewelry, ANI bags and Plain Jane Couture accessories.

Targeting men and women, the store is tapping into an emerging market across the waters from Manhattan.

Appropriately, the store’s hours of operation are also somewhat untraditional. It’s open on Thursdays and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 7:00 p.m. or by appointment – perfect for its clients, young shoppers who are not likely to follow the rules (or dress codes) of a strict 9 to 5 world.
