Parsons The New School for Design has announced the establishment of the Charles Feltus Hazzard, Jr. Scholarship, which will support undergraduate design education for students from underserved communities. The scholarship fund, to be awarded in perpetuity, honors Chet Hazzard, former Vice Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of Vera Wang. Hazzard was an owner and partner to Vera Wang for 15 years prior to his death in 2005.

The scholarship, funded by Hazzard’s former life partner E. Peter McLean, will benefit graduates of the Pre-College Scholars Program at Parsons, which provides college-preparatory design training for low-income youth in New York City, or a similar program at other institutions.

For years, Parsons has empowered talented design students to pursue art and design education, regardless of economic need, said Joel Towers, Dean of Parsons. “Through this generous gift, we are able to extend the work of our Pre-College Scholars Program to fund higher education for promising young New Yorkers, at a moment when design is an important global force for social change.”
