The last edition of Munich Fabric Start came to a close on September 6 with a positive, friendly and highly productive atmosphere, despite Europe’s ongoing economic crisis and a German airport strike that took place on the first day of the show.

Fair trade manager Wolfgang Klinder commented: “Up until now, we haven’t suffered any market breaks. On the contrary, the atmosphere hasn’t been this good in a long time. Part of the success is due to the wide variety of collections that come in from Europe, Turkey and China throughout the fair trade halls."

The Blue Zone area, which also hosted the Sportswear International Get2gether, registered an optimistic attitude as well. Exhibitors continue to consider the event a key opportunity for doing business with German denim and fashion insiders and increasingly more so with Northern European visitors from Poland, Denmark, Finland and other Scandinavian countries. Colored denims proved to be protagonists for the upcoming spring/summer 2013 season, together with special prints and jacquard patterns as well as 3-D surfaces.

A Rainbow Market
Color has long served as an antidote to crisis and a beloved fashion topic for the German consumer. Bossa presented a special 35-article collection focused on colored denim and ready-to-dye fabrics. Isko launched Eye Candy, a collection of fluorescent jegging denims made with neon warp and weft in yellow, green, pink and orange hues as well as other fabric constructions made to offer different inside-out contrasts. Italdenim, a specialized denim manufacturer, has reorganized its structure and now produces both denim and color denim fabrics at their Milan-based facilities. They later sell garments through their own Gentex structure and company, which presents a series of color denims as well as a series of metallic-laminated denims.

Special Surfaces
Jacquard effects are a must for the upcoming season, especially as presented by Lanificio Europa in a series of denim offering florals, polka dots and lurex yarn jacquard effects as well as flock velvet prints. The ITV 3-D denims obtained through special flock-print effects and patented jacquards that create the effect of handmade moustaches are also new.

Special Blends
Fiber mix denims are a new hot item as well. TRC is launching Candy, an innovative series of premium denims obtained by employing a mix of fibers like cotton, Tencel, Lyocell and polyesterx. The results are lightweight and super-soft hand stretch denims that are aimed especially at the women's market. Royo, for example, presented a new family of warm denims made with cotton and polyester that keep wearers warm and stylish with an authentic denim surface.
