Swedish brand Monki has been awarded the interior design concept of the year for its latest store design at the Habit Fashion Awards gala in Stockholm, Sweden. Monki has been known for its ultra-imaginative store designs since day one, and has proven itself once again with the winning design “Sea of Scallops.” The theme draws on a khaki, golden underwater world with a mirrored surface-like ceiling, scale patterned walls and sunken carousels that display the garments.
The judges presented the award, saying: “The retail interior concept of the year is a seductive and wild flirtation with the magical world we all sense is out there somewhere, waiting just around the corner. The idea of inviting customers to be co-creators through imagination has proven to be exceedingly successful. Above all, it is bold, unique and cocky.”
Sarah Otley, acting head of architecture at Monki, commented, “My instinct is that the judges found our concept too exciting to be ignored. We design in a challenging and risky way, and I think that the judges saw that by doing so Monki produces something really interesting.”
The brand has equipped Oslo’s Karl Johann location, London’s Carnaby Street store and Stockholm’s Hamngatan flagship with the Sea of Scallops interior design.
