Liz Claiborne Inc. unveiled plans today to turnaround the ailing Mexx business in Europe. The initiatives range from improving product appeal to linking wholesale and retail presentations and strengthening retail operations. The company also announced the appointment of Tom Fitzgerald, current Senior VP, Direct Brands Services at Liz Claiborne Inc., as interim CEO. Fitzgerald replaces Jeff Fardell, now currently Senior VP and Managing Director, Market Development for Liz Claiborne Inc. John Moore, from Abercrombie & Fitch’s Hollister Co. line and Modern Amusement for Mossimo Inc., will also serve as Consulting VP, Creative, immediately. Moore will set the vision for and oversee all design, product development and merchandising activities for the brand, with the first of his changes set to debut for the fall 2009 season. “The search for a permanent CEO is underway,” said William McComb, CEO of Liz Claiborne Inc. “Preferably a European, the candidate we are looking for is skilled in international brand building, with a sharp focus on enhancing margins and supply chain management, optimizing costs, building retail store productivity and nurturing wholesale relationships.”
