German leather accessories brand Liebeskind Berlin officially opened its first US standalone store yesterday. The 65-sq.-meter (700-sq.-foot) shop is at 276 Lafayette Street between Houston and Prince Streets in the city’s SoHo neighborhood, one of the city’s shopping area meccas.

At a “sneak peek” party DJ’d by go-to fashion DJ Chelsea Leyland last night Liebeskind Berlin’s CEO and founder Johannes Rellecke told Sportswear International that he was excited to have a monobrand retail presence in the States, even though Liebeskind Berlin is already carried by numerous major US retailers. “It gives us an opportunity for an overall presentation of the brand,” he said. He added that he liked the Lafayette Street location because its neighbors on the block include fellow European monobrand outposts such as G-Star, WeSC and 55DSL.

The décor of the store is industrial with Berlin-inspired cement walls, high museum cabinets used as display cases and rustic leather furniture. Liebeskind Berlin will celebrate the opening with four days of giveaways, raffles, guest DJS and a food truck parked outside that serves currywurst.
