As London prepares for the mayoral elections next month, the city’s current chief, Ken Livingstone, is putting his weight behind London Fashion Week ( in support of its finding a “permanent venue”. Launching his Arts and Creative Manifesto, the Mayor also pledged to improve conditions for models in the fashion industry as well as wide-ranging commitments to culture and leisure facilities.

"London is a world centre for fashion,” said Livingstone in a speech. “Great designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and John Galliano use London as a place of inspiration, to experiment and to launch new ideas. I will support steps to ensure London continues to launch the new talent of the future. I will therefore continue the support to London Fashion Week, which has already enabled it to begin to rebuild its international position and ensure there is support for the new design talent that is the bedrock of the industry. I will help London Fashion Week establish a permanent venue in the capital.”
