British outerwear maker J. Barbour & Sons, Ltd. has taken control of its three Barbour by Peter Elliot stores in the U.S. “After a six-year partnership and a long-term relationship, it’s part of Barbour’s strategy to acquire and control its own retail operations,” said Tom Hooven, General Manager of Barbour Inc., North America. “We appreciate Eliot’s contributions and thank him in helping to develop a successful entrée into a tough retail environment.” Barbour and entrepreneur Eliot Rabin opened the first Barbour by Peter Elliot retail store on Madison Avenue in New York City in November 2003, followed by additional stores in Boston, MA and Ardmore, PA followed. “I would like to thank my retail management team for its commitment,” said Rabin in a statement, adding that Peter Elliot Direct would continue to consult with “young authentic American companies.”
