Isko has recently organized the Denim Design Competition in partnership with the University of the Arts London – London College of Fashion. The aim of the initiative is to support emerging visions and ideas to mould future trends in denim and fashion. For this Isko asked 19 students to imagine and create the denim of the future. The young designers explored new uses, effects, applications and solutions on Isko denims. In only three weeks the students designed many cutting-edge creations and looks that were fit for the high street, ready to wear and couture.

Three prizes were awarded, in three main categories: “Denim future”, “Denim diffusion” and “Denim innovation”. On 10 July 2013 the “best three” were announced. Overall winner and winner of the Denim future award was Zoe Chandler who created a cool scratched-look fabric and won, besides the cash prize, a three-month placement in the Creative Room at the Isko design and research centre for brands and garment makers. The Denim Diffusion category elected Tina and Nikita Sutradhar, for their sophisticated striped look, and the Denim Innovation prize went to Ellie Sweeney and her recycled look with patchworks and stitches.

Three more protagonists were highlighted by Isko as promising talents – Boo Pala, Julia Bjorkeheim and Emerald Dangerfield – who were invited on an inspirational tour to Istanbul for the upcoming washing seminars, a specialist insight into denim, technologies, treatments and finishes. “Isko is eager to support excellence in fashion education,” said Banu Yenici, senior marketing executive, Isko. “This project proves that the future of fashion has a lot of further exploration in store. Young talents have to be strongly supported in order to enable them to innovate, backed by the expertise of the greatest specialist in the industry.”
