The Pre-loved fashion segment is experiencing a boom. Many online shops focused on second-hand fashion have been founded in recent years, throughout Europe and the US., a German start-up, founded by Alexandra Podeanu, Kiana Mardi and Thomas Förster in 2013 is one such store, which aims to secure a piece of the pie. The pre-loved market segment is very promising, with great investment opportunities, and growing potential. Here, co-founder Alexandra Podeanu discusses the concept, chances, and risks, and how vintage fashion captures the zeitgeist. Interview by Melanie Gropler

Please describe the concept and structure of your website. is a portal for buying and selling brand new and second hand designer fashion. On GLAMLOOP the items are always checked for authenticity and quality before they are shipped to the buyer.

Why and when did you start the website?
For sellers GLAMLOOP offers a very simple opportunity to sell designer fashion. This was our starting point. When your closet is full, and you rarely wear many pieces, or some pieces don’t fit anymore, or you have similar garments, but you also don’t have time to take pictures or prepare the items to be sold, we wanted a website that could do this for you. To say it in one sentence: An all around service was needed.

For the buyer it is risk-free shopping of second hand designer goods that are guaranteed. There are no fakes and you get what you order. If this is not the case, you get your money back.

What has the initial reaction been?
It's nice to see that GLAMLOOP was very well received from the beginning. The sellers showed their joy by writing ‘finally you are here’. It is so wonderful to see how excited everyone is when they sell for the first time.

Who does the website address?
Mainly it is addressed to women who are fashion conscious and not addicted to mainstream and fast fashion. Women who appreciate original and collectors pieces as well as vintage and high-end fashion. At GLAMLOOP, style, quality and the brand decide whether an article is accepted or not.

Has there been any wariness from customers about purchasing a pricey vintage garment online without seeing it and trying it on in person?
That seems to be less of an issue than you might think. All of our products are tested. Furthermore we offer many articles where the size plays no role, such as bags. Otherwise, if you are not satisfied the items can be resold free. If the seller is commercial, the 14-day return policy applies. But we cannot claim that the products with right of return are sold more often. We describe the fit very accurately and anyway for many brands you know your own size.

Why, in your opinion, is vintage fashion so important?
Vintage Fashion has something that is timeless but yet stands out from the crowd. It also meets the time spirit more and more regarding recycling and deceleration. Instead of always buying new clothes it brings fashion back into the circuit and you also get fashion from the circulation. It’s part of the same trend as car sharing.

The Pre-loved Fashion market is a growing market segment. A lot of money is involved here. How does Glamloop distinguish itself?
With its all-round service and fashion consultants, GLAMLOOP offers a unique concept to make the sale particularly easy. Furthermore, GLAMLOOP has a high-quality and professional appearance. The other special feature is the experienced team. Both founders previously worked for Rocket Internet and know how to deal with e-commerce start-ups, scalability and internationalization.

What new services or columns are you planning to add in the short or long-term?
The best is to subscribe to the newsletter and be informed about news any time. In any case, we recently launched an app to upload articles and soon there will also be a mobile version.

What have been the biggest challenges of running the site thus far? What have been the greatest joys?
At first it was a challenge to get the mass of articles quickly on the website. Therefore we have developed many new processes and process steps. It was great to be able to inspire so many people about our idea so fast. We have had good fortune with our office in the heart of Munich.

What are the short-term and long-term plans for the site overall?
We want to become THE address for pre-loved fashion and grow beyond German-speaking countries.

The buying and selling of high-end, brand new and second hand designer fashion.

What new services or columns are you planning to add in the short or long-term?
The newsletter provides information on all new topics.

How often are new products offered on the site?
Approximately 100 new articles are added daily.

How do you stay in touch with your members? How important is the social network aspect for this website?
We have a very active facebook fan base and there are regular newsletters and competitions.

What section, service or part of the website do you personally like most?
I especially like "Mein Bereich (My area)" because there are always new articles displayed, that go with me. (Based on the results of the style checks and my size).
