Sock brand Happy Socks has opened its first mono-brand retail space in Japan, a 21-sqm store located in Shibuya – one of Tokyo’s most famous shopping areas – within the latest mall concept from Japanese department store operator Parco.

Other cohabitants of the mall, which opened its doors on August 23, include Japanese and global favorites such as Miu Miu, Junya Watanabe and Comme des Garcons, among others. After opening shops in Stockholm, Shanghai and London, Tokyo marks just another step on Happy Socks’ expansion list. The brand’s CEO Mikael Söderlindh explained: “Japan is the perfect country for true retail experience. We believe the details we learn from this market will be very useful in our continued retail expansion. It is therefore logical that we selected Tokyo for our latest store; the move is the perfect test to prepare for our next target – America.”

Parco, which has been operating department stores in Japan since 1954, expects 7.5 million annual visitors in its new Shibuya branch and total sales amounting to 16 billion JPY (ca. €160 million) per year.
