Grameen Uniqlo will open two new stores in Dhaka, at H, Kakoli, Banani, and 40/1D, VIP road, New Paltan, Dhaka with the aim to build a nationwide chain of Grameen Uniqlo locations across the country. The first two stores of the Grameen Uniqlo chain opened in Bangladesh's capital in mid-July.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to expand across Bangladesh, so early after our launch here," commented Tadahiro Ymaguchi, Grameen Uniqlo COO. "This is the next step towards the vision of a nationwide chain of stores and aim to attract a strong fan base right across Bangladesh."
Grameen Uniqlo produces the collections in Bangladesh using locally sourced materials, employing local inhabitants and addressing local consumers.
Grameen Uniqlo is a social business launched in 2010. It is a joint venture between Fast Retailing Co. Ltd and Grameen Healthcare Trust. Profits are reinvested into Bangladesh to grow the network of stores. The initiative is part of Fast Retailing's long-term commitment to address poverty, hygiene, environment, and educational and gender inequality in a rapidly developing nation. Grameen Uniqlo began with door-to-door sales in farming villages offering affordable quality clothing to people living below the poverty line.
