Footwear and accessories designer George Esquivel of the handcrafted Esquivel leather brand now has a second job: creative director at Tumi, the international accessories and travel-bag brand.

The appointment became effective in January. In his new role Esquivel will provide creative direction on Tumi’s product development and marketing communications.

“As our company continues to evolve, we remain committed to finding new ways to drive brand excellence, including partnering with creative thinkers and innovators that will help us broaden appeal and loyalty to more consumers worldwide,” says Tumi CEO Jerome Griffith. “We are pleased to welcome George, whose aesthetic and affinity for quality, craftsmanship and design are a natural fit for the brand.”

The designer will split his time between his home in Los Angeles and Tumi’s New York-based design offices. His first products for Tumi will be ready for Holiday 2013. He will also continue to create his eponymous shoe line.
