Glaring, metallic jackets inspired by rock music brightened up the evening last night at Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence. Diesel Black Gold has launched its debut men’s collection from Andreas Melbostad.
Black and silver leather perfectos covered with metallic studs, military patches and shiny silver elements characterised the launch of the new F/W 2014/15 collection. Biker-inspired flannel and coated cotton trousers complete with paddings, topstitching’s and zippers, as well as essential coats with shearling linings complete the collection.
Melbostad has been designing the women’s Diesel Black Gold collection since F/W 2013. The show was held in Florence in Stazione Leopolda and featured 36 looks for men and seven for women.
“My inspiration is military rock,” comments the 41-year-old Norwegian designer who took inspiration from Willem Dafoe in Loveless. “My idea in designing this collection was to give men self-confidence and wish them to be bold and fearless. In a way this is all fashion is meant to be for me! All of my clothes are meant to convey this state of mind. Women can be more feminine and romantic and men more tailored, but this is what I want fashion to be,” he explains, before discussing Pitti’s main inspiration for the January 2014 edition – the idea that rock music is pervading fashion. Melbostad personally likes to work while listening to many different artists and genres, such as New Order, Depeche Mode, as well as rock, rap and classical music.
