The board of directors of Foot Locker Inc. announced that Richard A. Johnson has been appointed chief executive officer of Foot Locker. Johnson has also been appointed to the company’s board of directors, effective 1 December, 2014.

He succeeds Ken Hicks, who intends to retire as president and chief executive officer of the company on 1 December, 2014. Hicks will continue as executive chairman of the board through the company’s annual meeting of shareholders and will remain actively involved in the company, participating in operations through the first quarter of fiscal 2015.

Richard Johnson joined Foot Locker in 1997, when the company acquired Eastbay, where he had been on the senior leadership team. He assumed his most recent position as chief operating officer (COO) of Foot Locker in May 2012.
