This year Marithe and François Girbaud celebrate the 40th anniversary of Halles Capone (1972), their first concept store in Paris. To mark the occasion, on October 25 they will unveil “L'Autre Jean,” a special exhibition at the Museum of Art and Industry in Saint-Etienne, France as well as a book edited by the French La Martiniere and the English publisher, Abrams.

“L'Autre Jean" (The Other Jean in English) will cover the rebellious French design duo’s 40 years of combining of technology and creativity and the identity behind their work. As pioneers of jeanswear and modern fashion design, ranging from stone washing and laser treatments to meticulous, innovative research and experimentation on fits, silhouettes and materials, Marithé+François Girbaud have served as alchemists and reinvented and transformed the properties of leather, knits and new textiles.

The exhibit will be open on October 26 and run through May 6, 2013. The show will occupy an area of 700 sqm and present 120 garments as well as 40 hours of video content. The book further highlights the variety and wealth of M+F Girbaud's creations, their abundant experiments and the evolution of their various periods. It consists of 308 pages, 280 color illustrations and a cover made out of recycled denim. Authored by Farid Chenoune, Sonia Rachline, Marithé and François Girbaud, along with a preface by Yohji Yamamoto, the book will be available in French and English and will retail for €60.
