Australian sheepskin and merino wool footwear expert Emu is doubling its local manufacturing capacity and expanding its production and distribution premises. CEO Andy Knowles explains: “The sales growth across Europe has been exceptional during 2009; this year we have successfully introduced the brand into several new countries and grown significantly our largest markets such as the UK, Germany and Holland.” Emu expects that the business will be very strong next year due to a significant increase in the spring 2010 pre-orders and a successful autumn 2010 collection that will soon be launched to the worldwide sales force. As a result of the growth, Emu has doubled its European marketing spend. Emu footwear is already sold in over 10,000 doors across 62 countries, and the brand’s apparel collection has been picked by new doors internationally. In addition to Australia and New Zealand, the brand is now sold in Los Angeles, New York and London in shops such as Fred Segal and Kitson in Los Angeles and Macy´s and Wendy Foster in New York. In the past five years Emu has invested in sheepskin and wool technology in both footwear and apparel.
