Giorgio Armani’s younger, sportswear-minded Emporio Armani brand will be an official sponsor of the XIII FINA World Swimming Championships, taking place this summer between Jul. 17 and Aug. 2 in Rome. Designer Giorgio Armani has designed the official uniforms for the Italian team and members of the FINA committee.

The looks created by the designer specifically for the athletes include a two-piece suit in navy blue jersey and a two-button jacket featuring contrast white piping paired with trousers in a soft cut with a drawstring waist, a polo shirt in navy blue cotton piqué, and white sneakers in suede with edges and a logo embroidered in blue.

Armani’s relationship with the world of sport has been well-documented. He has dressed numerous champions and also published a book called Faces of Sport, featuring remarkable images of champion sportsmen and women, including Olympic athletes, to raise money and awareness for the international Special Olympics movement.

Many sporting personalities have been and are currently testimonial figures for Armani. In the world of swimming, notable names include Federica Pellegrini and Filippo Magnini. As well, during the June 2009 Milan men’s fashion shows, the Emporio Armani show featured a bike trial performance by worldwide champion Vittorio Brumotti driving an EA7 bike and closed with a group of models driving EA7 bicycles. EA7 is Emporio Armani’s most sport-oriented spin-off of Emporio Armani, and the EA7 bicycle represents one of the designer’s newest brand extensions.
