The Italian premium sportswear brand Stone Island is strongly focused on innovative fibers and high-research materials. For f/w 2016/2017 it is launching a series of pieces that employ a special polypropylene denim.
Polypropylene has antibacterial properties and is one of the lightest materials. By employing it even the bulky garments are astonishingly lightweight. Stone Island has employed polypropylene for a series of denim items – a jumpsuit, some outerwear pieces, trousers and backpack - made with an indigo fabric that looks like 19oz fabric but weighs only 10 oz. This material has undergone a special treatment, a manual sanding and light stonewash process as well as an enzyme wash.
Also part of this collection are some tops made with a special polypropylene indigo knit, made with an innovative ‘weaving’ technique, similar to the one used for shuttle woven fabrics. For this project they created a special yarn made with polypropylene and indigo dyed cotton threads with a chain construction.
Some of the jackets were also lined with Primaloft, an insulation technology with exceptional insulation capacity.
