Here we asked denim lover, blogger & expert Thomas Stege Bojer aka The Denimhunter to list and write about his very personal top ten denim stores around the globe.
Each day in the next two weeks we will present one of Bojer's favorites.

Today, it's part III with Second Sunrise in Stockholm.

"Douglas Luhanko has been a denimhead since he was a teenager in the early '00s. His passion was triggered by the characteristics of cotton, the durability of twill fabric and the mystery of indigo, as he puts it. 'I guess a tipping point was when my brother and I went on a road trip and bought a couple of old sewing machines,' he recalls. He soon started making his own jeans. And in 2009, he went to Nevada hunting for vintage denim in abandoned Nevada mines.

I met Douglas in January of 20I2. This was about  a year after he and his brother had opened Unionville in a partnership with Sivletto. Some years later, Kerstin Neumüller stepped through the door, looking for some reconstructed Levi's Vintage Clothing miner's pants. 'I just love anything old and textile-related,' she says.

Until the couple met, jeans didn't interest Kerstin all that much. 'They seemed to represent fast trends and cool kids to me, which I abhorred.' But when they started talking about indigo, one thing led to another. In 2017, they bought Unionville and rebranded it Second Sunrise.

The store has a wide yet focused range of brands. The vibe is a mix of raw denim bohemia and US high desert aesthetics. They define the shared characteristics of the store's products as high quality, inspirational materials and designs that are intriguing without being too loud.

'We do try to keep our selection interesting and our sizes in stock,' they explain. 'But we think the most important thing about running a store is being friendly and creating a space where everyone feels welcome and at ease'."
