Jeff Shafer, founder of Agave Denim, has launched a new apparel collection via the Kickstarter fundraising website. Called Bluer Denim, the first collection will include limited edition Made in the USA jeans, jackets, shirts and accessories for those who back the brand. As of yesterday, the brand had 286 backers and had exceeded its $20,000 goal by $15,385, with eight days left to go in the campaign.

The items will be designed in Portland, Oregon, made with cotton grown in Georgia and sewn with Cone White Oak denim from North Carolina. They will be cut, sewn and laundered with an eco-friendly process in Los Angeles.

Opening retail prices will be $95 for a pair of jeans.

“We constantly see other brands claiming to be premium, but Bluer actually is genuinely premium denim, in every sense of the word,” says Shafer. “With a young, college age target, and a very specific and focused value set, Bluer is designed for a new emerging generation. This is a deeply personal project for me in every sense, and that’s why it’s so important to launch with Kickstarter; it’s really part of a movement that resonates well with our audience; we wouldn’t be able to do this without it.”

Once the brand’s actual website is launched, customers will be able to select up to three pairs of jeans to try on at home and have 30 days to return the ones they don’t want.

In addition, the brand will purchase old pairs of jeans for $5 each, sanitize them and donate them to charity.
