Billabong proved that it was more than simply a surf brand with a special charity event in Sydney last week.

“Design for Humanity” at the Forum of the Entertainment Quarter in Paddington attracted some 800 guests and patrons with a dazzling runway presentation featuring the stunning US model/Sports Illustrated cover girl in 2007 and 2008, Tori Praver.

Also keeping the party pumping were performances by the hot new local outfit The Cassette Kids and rising singer/songwriter Ashleigh Mannix, with additional DJ sets by The Bag Traders.

With all production costs underwritten by Billabong, proceeds from the event went to SurfAid International.

“SurfAid’s mission is to improve the health, well-being and self-reliance of people living in the Mentawai islands where health, water and sanitation programs, as well as a school program, are able to be put in place,” said Stephanie Hendrickson, Marketing Manager, Billabong.

Overall, the event attracted an array of high-profile faces from the worlds of surfing, fashion and music, including Australian surf legend Mark Occhilupo, Taj Burrow and Joel Parkinson. Also in attendance were fashion/swimwear designer, Jodhi Meares, TV personality Laura Csortan, Hilton Dennis from “So You Think You Can Dance,” Jordan Rodrigues from Home & Away, celebrity skater and TV host Corbin Harris, and fashion designer Sam Elsom.

Featured on the runway were key looks set to heat up beaches and streets around the country as of July 2009, as well as a special fantasy section playing on the theme of super heroes. New for the season are classic feel-good vintage looks in swimwear, tees and board shorts; deluxe hippy style maxi-dresses; and hot bedazzling metallic items.
