Betsey Johnson ( has sold a controlling stake in her company to Castanea Partners, a Boston-based private equity firm. The deal, of which the details are undisclosed, signals an expansion of the Johnson brand through additional licensed products and a planned increase in global wholesale distribution. The company currently has 12 licensed product categories including lingerie, eyewear, footwear, fragrances and swimwear.

Chantal Bacon, chief executive officer of Betsey Johnson has said the company is looking at global expansion in a franchise capacity, and intends to expand the product into children’ s wear and bridal.

Currently the Betsey Johnson company generates over USD$200 million in retail through 51 freestanding stores and wholesale distribution.
