Swedish retailer Weekday has launched a collaboration with three graduates of the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Cédric Jacquemyn, Mariel Manuel and Matthieu Thouvenot each designed his and her own collection which are sold at all Weekday stores since beginning of October. Jacquemyn’s poetic collection for Weekday is inspired by the overwhelming landscapes of Iceland with soft, fluid and draped lines in combination with hard, sharp and minimal cuts. Mariel Manuel designed an extraordinary collection inspired by people that reject society and prefer a life in the wild nature. Thouvenot playfully took on the typical bourgeois countryside dress and interpreted classics such as tweed, leather and golden buttons in new, inspiring ways.

In 2009, Weekday launched its new concept ‘Weekday Collaboration’. So far, these collaborations included designers such as Carin Wester, Nhu Duong, Nakkna, Minimarket, Peter Jensen, Ali Zedtwitz, and Stina Goya.

Weekday has already announced its next collaboration partner: design duo Bless. Paris-based Desiree Heiss and Ines Kaag from Berlin who founded their label in 1997, are designing a collection for Weekday which will hit the stores by March of 2011. “The inspiration is drawn from the idea of the perfect weekend trip,” says Ines Kaag. “The accessories you have fun with, and the other ones you need to protect yourself from the changing weather. They are highly practical but still fun and fashionable.”
