It's official. Adidas announced today that it inked a deal with hip-hop artist Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliot to produce a full collection of Missy-inspired women's streetwear called Respect ME. The label will debut in approximately 500 stores in the USA this September and in Europe and Asia in November.

The announcement was made at a press conference held at the brand’s flagship store in SoHo by Adidas’ global creative director, Michael Mickalsky, and Elliot herself.

The collection will include three groups: "Base", which will account for approximately 50% of the line, "Rhythm", which will account for 30% and "Remix", which account for 20%. Respect ME will be a full collection of apparel (including some men's or unisex), footwear, which Mickalsky said currently consists of four models that will be offered in several different color and fabric variations, and accessories such as bags, hats and socks. Apparel sizes will range from XS to XXL.

Elliot, who has been customizing and wearing her own Adidas clothes religiously in her award-winning music videos for quite some time, said she is very excited about the deal. "I've been a big fan of Adidas since Run DMC," she said, and joked, "I was like, 'Ya'll better do a deal with me.'" Elliot is currently wrapping up her Ladies First Tour with Beyonce and Alicia Keys.

This is Adidas's first endorsement deal with an entertainer since the 1980s when the brand endorsed hip-hop pioneers Run DMC. Since then, the brand has endorsed professional athletes only.

At Elliot's request, some proceeds from Respect ME will go to the Break the Cycle Foundation—a non-profit organization dedicated to stopping violence against women by promoting domestic abuse awareness.
