UK sourcing tradeshow Fashion SVP–and its resident denim showcase, Source Denim–kicks off again in London next week (Jan. 15-16). Siddiqsons, Tex Services, PAK Denim, Rantex, Pioneer Denim and Zaber & Zubair are among the suppliers due to present their offerings in West London’s Olympia exhibition center next week.
When Source Denim launched last June, it was the UK’s only denim sourcing event. But with Denim Première Vision’s first London edition in December 2018, this is no longer the case. The next DPV host city will be Milan (May 2019), but we were still curious to get Source Denim organizer Buzz Carter’s take on there being another contender in the ring.
“It’s great to see the attention of the international denim community focusing on London. As the first ever denim industry show in the UK, Source Denim was the pacesetter, and after an initial flurry I imagine the shows will now settle down along their own individual paths, offering different perspectives. We’ve been running Fashion SVP, the premier UK sourcing show, for over five years, and this has given us unique experience and relationships with UK buyers, who trust us to provide the best for them in London,” said Carter.
How have you tweaked the event since Source Denim’s first edition? “Positive and valuable feedback from our first event has prompted us to direct energy and investment into more content, in the form of enhanced panel talks and discussions, a refreshed and revamped trend area, plus an exciting collaboration between vintage specialist Brut Clothing and innovative mill Pioneer Denim, resulting in a unique collection of re-envisioned denim classics.”
Last season, we found the panel talk program to be one of the show’s strongest assets. For the upcoming edition, Chris Hewitt of the UK’s only selvedge denim producer Hewitt Heritage Fabrics, and Mohsin Sajid–Endrime’s creative director and general denim guru–are among the industry insiders lined up to give talks.
