Big changes at the forefront of sustainable fashion in Berlin: The trade show formerly split into Greenshowroom and Ethical Fashion Show was not only renamed into Neonyt, but also got entirely retransformed into–what the organizers call–a hub, taking all loose ends that have been existing around the event for several seasons and tying them up into a reasonable structure.
„Finally!“ agrees Oliver Spieß, CEO of Langbrett empathically. His brand is one of 150 exhibitors that presented their collections of fashion, accessories and shoes as well as informed about their institutions and initiatives in the Kraftwerk. „For the first time the trade show has developed an own signature, the audience has become much more international and the highly interested visitors already bring some knowledge“, Spieß explains. „Neonyt has finally become a proper fashion trade show,” he concludes.
Indeed the reworked event organized by Messe Frankfurt brings a breath of fresh air that also reflects the selection of exhibitors, who seem to be truly curated for the first time. So even if the show is a niche event compared to trade shows such as Panorama Berlin and Premium, the vision of Neonyt to be the global platform for sustainable fashion, be it as source of inspiration, as matchmaking forum or as tangible marketplace, is clear now.
„For Ecoalf it was a best moment to show at Neonyt“, sales representative Lars Garbe says. „After introducing our brand into the fashion market without focusing too much on our sustainable background, we are now particularly approaching green retailers. We found a lot of good new customers here,“ he says.
When it comes to the collections and trends on the fair earthy tones such as terracotta are all around. As well as the ever loved accent color mustard.
Print is a big topic, from beautiful colorful geometrical patterns and dots to flowers and more abstract versions. Almost no collection can make it without checks nor without fluffy knit, fake fur and suede items.
But what made this visit really worth was the huge move towards new materials that bring up an entirely new esthetic. Talking about 150 year old sneaker brand Nat-2 for instance, who nowadays experiments broadly with leather alternatives showing a sneaker partly made of ox blood, milk fiber or mushroom. Another favorite is the label’s iridescent synthetic, but at least super durable, sneaker that changes color due to light conditions. Nuuwai presented leather goods made of apple skin that even smelled a bit like leather.
For the future, it will be highly important for Neonyt to keep the accelerated pace, convincing some more leading green brands to join as well as relevant international buyers and influencers.
