If you have ever wondered if any platform exists that provides information and advice about where and how to find the right denim mill or producer somewhere in the world, well, we have good news: denim-madhouse.com could be the online destination you’re seeking.
Recently launched by German denim sourcing expert Martin Schaefer, the platform addresses denim buyers as well as denim mills, producers and members of the full supply chain. “Unfortunately, sourcing for denim is more complicated than for other fabrics or garments, because in case you quickly need a new provider you cannot just hand over the construction details of your fabric and that’s it! You need to be sure that the mill or producer can manage to exactly deliver the denim fabric you want. On the site, I want to exclude any shady ‘all-rounders’ but instead only list substantial and trustful companies,” Schaefer says.
How does he want to guarantee for that? “Either I have been to the mill or producer myself and have even worked with them or I have my sources in the specific country to get information about the companies,” he explains. Having worked in the industry for many years on different sides of the fence Schaefer certainly knows quite a bit about the denim sourcing business, especially in South Asia.
Denim-madhouse.com works pretty easily: For buyers on the one hand, it lists mills and production facilities by country, for example Turkey, Pakistan or Bangladesh, including short profiles. It also gives additional information about each production hub. Schaefer does not rate or compare the single companies, but provides basic information such as the type of the facility, the capacities and what it offers. He also gives comments on the strengths and hints on the weaknesses. All access to this information is for free.
The companies on the other hand, can promote themselves by having extra information added (on top of the basic facts) for a yearly charge of €600.
Additionally, denim-madhouse.com publishes information about the most relevant denim fabric trade shows around the globe.
Schaefer’s site is work in progress: “I would like to establish an online forum there to create a platform to exchange information and start a discourse on different topics between users. And of course I will constantly update the country and company profiles and add more details to make denim-madhouse.com as comprehensive as possible.”
