ZonaTortona Design, the hip design event taking place in Milan and running concurrently with the Salone del Mobile from Apr. 22-27, will expand to a new area in town. In addition to the hot spot around Porta Genova, design exhibitors will present their newest innovations in the streets of Zona Romana, the quarter around the Roman gate in the Southeast of the city. The main locations there will be Spazio Botta and Teatro Franco Parenti. The 2009 edition, under the patronage of the Milan City Council, “is aiming towards new quality goals in order to raise the level of its projects and initiatives, consolidating the uniqueness of the event on an international scale,” says Maurizio Ribotti, CEO of organizer Design Partners. Subsequently, a 400-sq.-meter temporary lounge, designed by Adam D. Tihany, will be installed inside Magna Pars, (via Tortona 15) with a relaxation area, restaurant and media center. There will also be a media suite and a private club. Last year’s edition drew an estimated 88,000 visitors from 50 different countries to 90 locations on 35,000-sq.-meters of exhibition space to see 200 exhibitors.
