Last week the VIEW Premium Selection in Munich (9.-10. December) finalized its preview on the trends for fabrics and accessories for the season spring/summer 2017. More than 300 pre-collections by top international weavers and suppliers were presenting their first ideas for the next summer. Overall there has once again been a slight increase in the percentage of foreign companies among the exhibitors, the most notable increase being recorded in the number of Italian collections. Manufacturers like Achille Pinto, Gratacós, Serates, Blue Line, Polo Divisione Tessuti, Miroglio, Eton Textile, Cabalane and Ormezzano were among the 17 newcomers of the show. As visitors, design teams from brands like Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Marc O’Polo and Baldessarini have been registered.

The early date of the show again proved to be right and important for designers and buyers. Not only the premium brands, also middle market brands like C&A and Peek & Cloppenburg were showing up at the View to get their information as early as possible. Sebastian Klinder, managing director of View and Munich Fabric Start: "More and more brands appreciate the quality of View's offerings at this early date, especially because of the immense interest in textile innovations we are currently seeing. Each season we take great care in selecting a portfolio that will present collections with a high level of innovation and continue to expand our offerings in accordance with the demands of the market. With its focused working atmosphere, View provides a platform for an intensive interexchange between industry and brands, which is ultimately important for the development of the collections, and for a strong start into the new season." 

In terms of trends, there were some first tendencies to spot. The fabrics will still be about structures and haptic surfaces. Technical looks will become more and more natural without losing their technical features – they become more and more invisible and therefore a standard. The combination of timeless elegance and visible naturalness serves as a basis for the collections. Sensual super-soft, flowing dry goods remain predominant. Denim manufacturers like Candiani Denim and Tejidos Royo use DualFix, Tencel, Modal or silicone finishes to reach the highest softness of denim. At Candiani Denim, the vintage character loses strength and the classical blue denim sees a return. Besides that, denim is still a stable part in the collections of many brands with no loss of demand. “It’s not that denim is getting weaker or there is an alternative becoming stronger in the collections”, says Norbert Hinderberger from Candiani Denim. “It’s the general development in retail that the consumer spends less for fashion that makes us think.” The market is still demanding raw to destroyed denim looks.

Prints are again very strong, including graphic looks as well as jungle and new ethical prints. Also stripes and new tweeds were presented and a mixture of many techniques, like a structured fond complemented with printed or embroidered motifs could be seen. Further, a more natural look sees the implementation of more natural materials like silk and linen. For linen, buyers were seeking for new optics and treatments. The colors are becoming less vibrant, new reds and pinks were discussed, as well as purple. Also different shades of blue and pastels were presented.

The complete collections will be presented at the Munich Fabric Start/Bluezone, which will be held from 2-4 February, 2016.
