The overall mood at shoe and accessory trade fair GDS was very positive last week in Düsseldorf (Germany). More than 900 brands presented their collections for the upcoming spring/summer 2016 season. Visitors were satisfied about the high diversity of brands and the trend inspirations. Some 15,000 visitors attended the fair between July 29-31 this season, which is a similar number compared to the edition one year ago.

Exhibitors have reported avid interest in their collections. Tino Soulis, Replay Footwear: “We are happy, despite the difficult market situation; all important big retailers are back.” Also Dirk Fuchs, Diesel footwear, reported on good results:  “We have made good new contacts with important department stores”.

The first day was the busiest one, the second day worked well and the third one was lazy. Not all exhibitors were happy about the attendance and missed international visitors. The order mood was good but the frequency didn´t fulfil the expectations. “A year ago we had a higher stream of visitors”, said Sven Simonsen of Palladium. The summary by Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GDS, is divided: “The very high visitor satisfaction cannot blind us to the fact that the general ´footfall' is not sufficient to satisfy all exhibitors. We are getting a positive feedback from the retailers who were here – it´s just a shame there were not more of them coming.”

As side events, a blogger event with 160 fashion bloggers and the “Out of the box” festival in the city entertained with initiatives such as a “High Heel Run” where stiletto fans had to race.

The next edition of GDS and tag it! will be held from 10 to 12 February 2016.
