Denim Expert Ltd. (DEL), one of the key vertically-integrated denim manufacturers in Bangladesh has been admitted into the developpp.de program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany. The aim of this project is to foster sustainable business practices within the private sector in emerging countries to achieve developmentally beneficial value and thus enhance the living conditions in those nations.
Kick-started in December 2015, the two-year partnership with DEL comprehends not only the progress of its own environmental footprint, but also the construction of a training center for denim production for both DEL’s own staff and external workforce. Up to one hundred trainees will be educated in social and environmental standards, production and quality management. The courses provided impart knowledge of denim washing, dyeing, design and product development. The educational content will be developed in collaboration with lecturers and students of the following educational partners: Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, the Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone and the Bangladesh Denim Expo.
Mostafiz Uddin, managing director of DEL and founder of sourcing platform Bangladesh Denim Expo is involved in the preparation of training materials for the center, and will be teaching some courses himself.
