Shoe giant Skechers USA ( is about to get its feet wet in the swimwear sector.

The company announced on Tuesday that it has signed a licensee, Christina America Inc., to design, distribute and market a new line of women’s and juniors’ swimwear called Skechers Beach. The bathing suits will be sold in department and specialty stores in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom and other international markets. The one- and two-piece designs are expected to hit retail floors in time for the 2004 resort season.

Skechers will also offer new sandals under the Skechers Beach name as a complement to the swimwear. These shoes will be available for spring 2004.

The deal marks the ninth licensing agreement for the California-based brand. Skechers’ other licensed categories includes juniors’ sportswear, Michelle K women’s apparel, socks, watches, and men’s coats, among others.
