Last night the Shipley & Halmos label was honored by New York’s National Arts Club with the inaugural Young Designer Award. The infamous members club was packed out with key industry figures - and a whole heap of champagne - helping the design duo, Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos, to celebrate their win in great style.

This is the first accolade to be bestowed on the pair since they established the line less than a year ago, following their departure from Trovata (trovata.com). While Trovata (which is now run solely by co-founder John Whitledge) remains a hot-ticket brand Shipley & Halmos (shipley-halmos.com) has gone on to find it’s own success. Outfitting both men and women in sharp, sleek garb (quite a removal from Trovata’s laid-back beach aesthetic) the desingers caused a real stir with their first presentation at NYFW this past season and the collection was quickly taken on by the likes of Barneys New York, Steven Alan, TG-170, and Mick Margo.

The National Arts Club intends to make the award an annual one, with the aim of recognizing and celebrating the freshness of fashion. The club's committee is, said fashion chair Chrishaunda Lee, “all about fashion as an art form”.
