The winners of Design am Rhein, a young designers’ competition organized by Igedo Company and AMD Akademie Mode & Design Düsseldorf, were recently announced in Düsseldorf.

The first prize went to womenswear designers Kamilla Richter and Katrin Switala for their label Richter Switala. The runner-up was Sophie Hummelt and Antonia Goy came in third. The seven members of the jury awarded fourth place to Kim Berit Heppelmann for Kimberit and the design duo of Friederike von Wedel-Parlow and Regina Tiedeken. Fifth place went to the label Jan iú Més by the Spanish designers Jan Zamora i Royo and Alfonso Pena Carreras.

The grand finale of Design am Rhein, which ran concurrently with CPD from Feb. 1-3, included a presentation of high fashion collections by 11 finalists to a high caliber jury and 600 guests. Organizers Igedo and AMD opened up the competition to European participants for the first time this year. The winners receive complimentary exhibition stands at the Igedo Fashion Fairs in Jul. 2009 and Feb. 2010. In addition, their collections will also open the Gallery Shows of both events. The first prize winner will also be given a free stand at CPM in Moscow in Sept. 2009 and Mar. 2010. In addition to press coverage, a custom-designed website and professional photo shoot for the current collection were granted to the first prize winner.
