A visibly quiet and smaller Project than in seasons past opened the New York men’s f/w 09 shows on Sunday, showcasing just over 200 lines at the Jacob Javits Center and a notably larger assortment of eyewear, accessories and footwear brands such as Marcolin, Jump, Grenson, Timberland Foot Company, Swims, Grenson and Vael Project. Disappointingly, the show wasn’t short on cliché, embellished denim brands and their lifestyle complements, but overall there were good products to be had at the show, such as toggle jackets and cardigans (see Operations, Sabit, Spiewak) updated in luxurious, colored and patterned wools; flannel check shirt-jackets (Union); distressed corduroy (PRPS and Pratt’s Motor Spirit) and even boyfriend-style, workwear-inspired silhouettes for women (Civil Smith).
