Paul Frank Industries ( announced Monday that Paul Frank Sunich has left the company he co-founded in 1997. A press release said he left “to pursue other interests” but declined to name what those were.

His eponymous brand began ten years ago when Sunich started stitching simple vinyl wallets featuring an original creation, Julius, a cartoon monkey.

By 2004, Paul Frank Industries had grown to an estimated $40 million in sales of apparel and accessories and featured collaborations with Sanrio’s Hello Kitty, Mattel and Andy Warhol. Along with stores in the US, the brand recently opened retail shops in cities such as London, Berlin and Athens.

Sunich is still a major stakeholder in Paul Frank Industries.
