After equipping US middle distance runner Jack Bolas with a made to measure 3D-printed Spike-sole, New Balance now announced the launch of the first high performance running shoe with an entirely 3D-printed midsole.

In cooperation with 3D Systems the brand developed a sole made from the Elasto powder DuraForm Flex TPU, which is supposed to achieve an ideal balance between flexibility, rigidity, weight and endurance. For the production of the 3D sole New Balanced uses the so called selective-laser-sintering, which uses a laser to process new powder into firm profiles.

“2013 we said that this could be the future of shoe manufacturing and today we are proud to provide our customers with the future in form of fully printed 3D midsole”, said New Balance president and CEO Robert De Martini.

The limited edition shoe will be presented in Boston in April 2016 and subsequently be available in selected New Balance stores around the world.
