Exploring the new, powerful fashion expression that is the Swedish avant garde, a new exhibition called “The Swedish Avant Garde: Fashion, Freud and the Forbidden Identity” opens next week at the Mall Galleries in London. Resting upon the Freudian school of psychology and the power of the subconscious, the exhibition sets out to unravel the subversive relationship between the Swedes and their homegrown breed of radical fashion. Some of the notable Swedish designers whose work will be showcased include Ann Sofie Back, Patrik Söderstam, Kling by Kling, Åsa Westlund and Nakkna. The exhibition runs from Feb. 3-5 and is curated by London College of Fashion graduate Sofia Hedman. A promising new talent, Hedman was a onetime buyer for the hip Stockholm retailer, Tjallamalla.
